The Stroudsburg Street Department consists of seven employees. You may contact them at the Borough Shed at 570-421-0490 (118 Borough Street). For any after-hours emergencies, such as a sewer blockage, contact Monroe County Control Center at 570-992-9911.
Listen carefully to Snow Emergency declarations
A Snow Emergency is declared in the Borough anytime there is an accumulation of three-inches or more of snow or when, in the opinion of an authorized Borough official, street conditions are hazardous and dangerous. Snow Emergency Routes are signed throughout the Borough. Vehicles parked on snow emergency routes during a declared snow emergency are subject to ticketing and/or towing.
The Public Works Director provides notification of the declaration of a snow emergency to the Police, Pocono Record, WNEP, WBRE, WSBG and TV13. Many of these media outlets have automatic alerts listeners can sign up to receive through the various Web sites.
Motorists should carefully note the declared start and end times for a snow emergency; the ending time is normally at least 24 hours after the estimated end of the weather event. This enables public works crews to complete all snow removal and ice control operations.
Ever wonder what the colored lines mean on the streets, grass and sidewalks? Using the PA One Call system, markings are made by the various utilities whenever anyone proposes to dig underground for any type of work. Each utility has its own dedicated color. Here is a Utility Color Chart Guide:
Spring Brush Pickup
Brush pickup dates for Spring 2018 are:
Tues., Wed., Thurs.; April 17, 18 and 19
Materials collected are limited to tree branches and prunings, twigs, small bushes (without root ball), hedges and tree logs not exceeding 5-inches in diameter. Limbs must be cut to a 4-foot length and tied in bundles not exceeding 50 pounds. Other materials should be placed in containers for easy pick up. Place materials curbside prior to 8 a.m.
Throughout the year, these items may be dropped off at the Recycling Center on Fridays from 8 a.m. until noon at the facility on Lincoln Avenue in East Stroudsburg (behind Walmart).
Note that this program does NOT include pick up of grass clippings, leaves, flowers, vines, roots or garden and vegetable plants. These items should be composted.
Spring Bulk Item Drop-Off
Each Spring, the Borough offers a bulk item drop-off at the Borough Shed (DPW Dept.) on Borough Street off 10th Street.
There is a minimum charge of $10 per pickup load and special material prices.
NO ROOFING OR CONTRACTOR DEBRIS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Leaf pickup dates for Fall 2017 are: Tues., Oct. 10 to Fri., Nov. 24
Each fall, Stroudsburg Public Works crew members pick up leaves throughout the Borough.
Streets with alternate-side parking will have the leaves picked up on two days per week: once on the day designated on the schedule and once on the day for alternate parking.
Residents are asked to rake leaves to the edge of their properties curbside and ensure they are not blocking sidewalks or over the curb or in the roadways or gutters, to avoid interference with storm drains and the storm water system.
Residents should also ensure piles left for collection contain only leaves, with no other debris mixed in, as this is a safety concern for public works collection crews and also causes problems with the leaf collection machinery and disposal operations.
Christmas Tree Pickup
The Borough performs curbside pickup of Christmas trees. Public Works crews go through the entire Borough three times each week for a four-week time span. Residents should place trees out on the curb early in the morning during this time period. The precise pickup dates are posted below each December.
Curbside Christmas Tree pickup dates for 2018 are: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in January (exact dates are January 3 – 19).
